Description

In the early 1980s, Gaetano Pesce produced a series of nine experimental chairs for the Pratt Institute in New York. Without a supporting structure, they explore different levels of solidity: the polyurethane is poured into the same mould with a higher density each time. The creation of this chair is an adventure: while the first chair produced in this series cannot support its own weight and collapses on itself, the ninth is too rigid to be comfortable. Only the eighth of the series, shown here, presents a balance between rigidity and comfort. This series highlights the properties of the resin through colour, patterns and different degrees of transparency and also questions the relationship between the body, object, material and the environment.
